I've never heard about it before research either, but it is absolutely different absolutely different for a reason: the common corns that we eat today (Zea Mays) was bred by people to be as juicy and edible as it is!

Teosinte still exists now but they're native to Mesoamerica and count as wild grasses, both in classification and in general look and feel with it resembling stuff like wheat more than the good yellow stuff! C:
