In my opinion, I have a bit hard time understanding you since I never do art because of some trend but I can see how not trendy art doing doesn't get attention from random stranger. In fact, the internet feels like it's designed to an existing algorithm. No matter where you are, where you go in the internet, there's always an algorithm whether it's there or not. People themselves are the algorithm.

Doing art for yourself and having fun should be #1 priority. Usually that's what most people would say. But deep down, there's always an obligation there and there. You do art because you need to survive. You do art because you want attention.

It's impossible to have it all. The best way to approach it is to negotiate. Do something that is both fun and beneficial. Or even better, gaslight yourself.

I've seen artist post 1 art, and they get thousands of followers and attention. Trying to have random people know who you are and what you do can be, underwhelming unless you're lucky. But just, don't give up. If you need to break from obligation, do so. I think it's better to stay in the middle and juggle between your mental health and the real world.
